Good evening Sun Devils,
Thank you for those who we able to join us Wednesday afternoon for our bi-weekly meeting! For our ice breaker we asked the question: Besides the military where do you draw your sense of identity from? We had some awesome answers such as drawing your identity from family role (spouse, child, parent, etc.). Others mentioned they drew their sense of identity by their qualities (patient, hard working, compassionate) and we had some draw it from what they do (student, current job, or passion/hobby). For those that were unable to join us take a moment to ask yourself the same question, besides the military where do you draw your sense of identity from?
As for how to get involved in the ASU military-connected community at large at ASU please see below opportunities:
1. Volunteer Opportunity- We are still asking for volunteers to submit a short video message (20 seconds max) expressing your appreciation, reflection, or support for those who served in the Vietnam War. Email your video to ovmae@asu.edu and it will be compiled into a meaningful opening montage for Phoenix's commemoration for the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. Your submission will also put your name in a raffle to win a $50 gift card to Amazon.

2. Verses for Vets- Please join us for a poetry workshop for Veterans and family members that explores how writing can heal and inspire. Read and discuss poetry by Veterans, then try your hand at creating your own!

3. OVMAE's Speaker Series- Please join OVMAE (virtually or in person) for their very first speaker series breakfast! U.S. Army Veteran and former prisoner of War, Jessica Lynch will be sharing her story of courage, survival, and resilience, along with where her life has taken her since her time in uniform. Date of event is 6 October 9-11 a.m. (AZ Time)

2. PLEASE fill out our t-shirt survey! We want to get the most accurate count for your free membership t-shirts, if you do not fill out a survey we will guestimate the size for everyone that did not answer and we may run out of your size t-shirt as a result. Please see below for link to our survey.
3. Join our meetings! We have our bi-weekly meetings on Zoom for everyone to join, take some time to join us on there and get to know other military-connected Sun Devils around the world. For the ladies in our group, we have a military-connected womens group that will be meeting this upcoming Monday for their first official meeting.
