The BLAST Leadership and Service Team at Barrett, The Honors College Downtown Campus exists to cultivate a unified, engaged, and service-oriented honors community through the planning, promotion, and execution of meaningful events and initiatives. Supporting Barrett’s signature events, developing lasting traditions, and valuing feedback from the student body. BLAST empowers students through leadership opportunities and social service. With an emphasis on Leadership Opportunities, BLAST shall strive to provide ample opportunities for its members to gain leadership experience. We are committed to building a strong community within Barrett and fostering a spirit of service that extends to the broader community on the Arizona State University Downtown campus and the Barrett Honors College.

Our mission is to connect students at the College of Law with practitioners and the practice of
international and transnational law in Arizona and beyond; and to promote international legal scholarship in conjunction with the Center for Law and Global Affairs at ASU.

Mission
To provide a law related education program that promotes democratic engagement, constitutional literacy, and legal advocacy by placing talented upper-level law students in high schools to teach yearlong courses in constitutional law and oral advocacy.

As described in our organization's goals, the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project provides an opportuinty for law students to develop foundational lawyering and professionalism skills by equipping them to address the well-documented constitutional illiteracy and civic disengagement of America's high school students. Fellows train in inquiry-based educational methods to support their high school students in developing 21st Century skill sets of creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking, and these same methods help law students on their lifeline journey to learn the contours of the law. Law students also have the deeply rewarding experience of bettering their community and learning to listen to peoples' needs, which also allows them to accumulate pro bono hours.

The Foreign Policy Initiative at Thunderbird engages its members through events, conversations, and resources related to foreign policy, global trade, and international affairs. Our expanding community fosters respectful and fruitful dialogue around various issues related to policy, politics, trade, and international affairs with a wider outlook to analyze how complex geopolitical systems affect businesses.

We provide a space for our members to hear from a wide range of experts and stakeholders from public, private, and third-sector organizations including government offices and advocacy groups. The Initiative explores contemporary and historical contexts of global issues and their impact on local and international systems, including technological and cultural development, conflict, administration, social action, and manufacturing.

Our invited guest speakers and industry experts from different levels of public, private and government sectors contribute to our community by educating our audience on the various methods and examples of addressing social, political, and economic issues.

We encourage further engagement with the political landscape through our partner organizations’ events and resources which provides further benefits to our constituency including educational materials, networking, and opportunities.

Mission
In 1989, students and attorneys who were concerned about the lack of legal services accessible to the homeless established the Arizona State University College of Law Unhoused Legal Assistance Project (ULAP). The project started with one homeless facility in the community, and it gradually expanded to meet the Valley's growing needs. Today, our volunteers visit five facilities in the Phoenix area: CASS, US Vets, La Mesita, SVDP, and EVMC.

The Unhoused Legal Assistance Project is a student-run organization. Law students and attorneys come together to help homeless individuals throughout the valley, access the legal assistance that they need. Students receive pro bono hours for their participation and gain unique experience by interacting with clients on a one-on-one basis, applying their academic knowledge to real-life situations, and learning first-hand about the local homelessness crisis. Attorney volunteers come from all sectors of the profession and bring with them a broad range of experience.
