Alpha Epsilon was founded on October 24, 1909 at Barnard College in NYC by seven Jewish women. Today, Alpha Epsilon Phi has over 80,000 members located throughout the world. There are over 100 collegiate chapters on college and university campuses throughout the United States and over 70 alumnae chapters. On March 12, 2018 the ASU Colony of Alpha Epsilon Phi became the 16th Panhellenic sorority at Arizona State University. Alpha Epsilon Phi is a historically Jewish sorority, but is accepting of all women regardless of faith or background, so long as they are willing to espouse the traditions and purpose of the organization. The mission of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority is to inspire and support exemplary women dedicated to friendship and a lifelong commitment to Alpha Epsilon Phi while building on the vision of our Jewish founders.

Since coming to ASU in 2018, AEPhi has completed hundreds of community service hours, raised thousands of dollars for our two national philanthropies Sharsheret and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and cultivated a tightly-knit sisterhood.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is America’s first Greek-letter organization established by Black college women. Founded in 1908, her roots date back to Howard University, Washington, D.C., where the idea for formation was conceived by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle of St. Louis, Missouri. She viewed the Sorority as an instrument for enriching the social and intellectual aspects of college life by providing mental stimulation through interaction with friends and associates. Through the years, however, Alpha Kappa Alpha’s function has become more complex. After her incorporation as a perpetual body in 1913, Alpha Kappa Alpha gradually branched out and became the channel through which selected college-trained women improved the socioeconomic conditions in their city, state, nation and the world. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is based on the principles of sisterhood, scholarship, and service to ALL mankind. Alpha Kappa Alpha has grown through the years to become an international organization with a membership in excess of 200,000 women. Membership in our organization consists of women of distinction and exemplary character. These women excel in all areas of life and work closely with the community. Alpha Kappa Alpha has undergraduate and graduate chapters located in the United States, West Africa, Great Britain, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Korea and Germany.
