Micro-G NExT

The Micro-g Neutral Buoyancy Experiment Design Teams (Micro-g NExT) program invites undergraduate students to design, build, and test a tool or device that solves a real, current challenge in space exploration. Participants gain hands-on experience in engineering design, testing, and public outreach.

Testing takes place in the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where a massive pool simulates microgravity. Student teams submit a proposal and create a prototype of a tool identified by NASA engineers as essential for future missions. During testing, professional NBL divers operate the tools underwater while students oversee and direct the test from the facility’s Test Conductor Room.

Micro-g NExT offers an exciting opportunity for students to make a meaningful contribution to NASA’s ongoing exploration efforts.
